So you Want to Create Craft Patterns?

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By Kelle Arvay Let’s say you’ve been creating your craft designs and selling them either online or off. Now your interested in creating patterns of your designs and becoming a WAHM to start your own pattern business. What is the first step you need to take to make that happen you ask? Well, first of all you need to understand the make up of a pattern. The following are the basic components of creating a pattern: Front Cover Supply List Instructions Templates Back Cover Front Cover: This is where your banner, logo, website address, and picture of the design will go. Supply List: Using MS Word or Works, you’ll need to type a list of all the required supplies for making your design. Be sure and include brand names if you used them. Also the supply list can go on the back cover and this makes it easy for the customer to see what is required without taking the pattern out of the bag. Instructions: The best way to create instructions is to take notes while your making the item. Type them out using MS Word or Works. Be as detailed as possible without writing War and Peace. Also remember to write your instructions as if your instructing a beginner. When your finished it’s very important to proof read and use spell check. Templates: When you make your creation you should make sure you trace out templates on cardstock. So this way you can have them to trace onto paper again for the pattern. If you have shapes like circles or need straight lines, use a small glass, plate and a ruler. Trace your templates out on 8 1/2 x 11 paper. Make sure your drawings are accurate in size and don’t resemble being drawn by a 3 year old. There’s nothing worse than for a customer to get what they think is going to be a great pattern only to find the templates distorted or drawn poorly. Back Cover: The back cover is the best place for the supply list and any additional information like size of the finished item you think the customer needs to know. As well as your contact information and website address. Some of the other supplies you’ll need to send patterns through the mail is 6 x 9 pattern bags and 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 manila envelopes. Once you’ve finished all these steps your ready to scan your templates and save them on your computer or you can take the original templates to a copier and make copies. If your wanting to offer your patterns as e-patterns you’ll need to learn how to put all the elements of your patterns into a PDF. There are many tutorials that can be found online for this process or you can hire someone to do them for you. PDF’s are opened and read by Acrobat Adobe. E-patterns are a wonderful way to offer your online customers a fast and easy way for your customers to purchase your patterns and get them via e-mail. Good luck in all your pattern endeavors and keep on crafting and designing. Kelle Arvay www.PatternMart.com Kelle Arvay has been a doll maker and designer for the last 3 years. Is Sclerotherapy Safe?

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By Tracy Bautista Sclerotherapy is a safe and proven procedure with very few significant risks. However, it is important for anyone considering sclerotherapy to know that while complications are quite unlikely, they are a possibility. The most common complication of sclerotherapy is hyperpigmentation. Within a few weeks after treatment, some patients develop a brownish discoloration on the treated area. Usually, this disappears within 6-12 months although in some rare cases, the discoloration persists for more than a year. Matting or blushing around the injection site occurs to a few patients within weeks after surgery. This can be characterized by new, tiny blood vessels but they are often resolved within three to 12 months without further treatment. Also, a small scab may develop at the injection site if any of the solution escapes from the blood vessels. This can be easily treated, however, with an antibiotic ointment. There is little risk of infection or bleeding form sclerotherapy. You may go back to your regular daily activities immediately after the treatment. Walking and wearing heavy compression stockings to support treated vessels are recommended. To optimize results and sclerotherapy and minimize risks of complications, it is recommended that you visit a trusted cosmetic clinic that specializes in the treatment of vein disorders. Ensure that those performing the treatment are providers who have undergone extensive training. Also, strictly follow post-treatment instructions. Finally, fully understand your family history and pre-treatment evaluation to prevent, recognize and treat complications should they occur. Nokia Mobile Phones: Troubled Leadership

Monday, October 29th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Keith_Rickwood]Keith Rickwood The Finnish conglomerate have long been ruling the roost of the mobile scene not in any particular country or region, but the whole world. Nokia as a company probably enjoys more brand loyalty than any other mobile brand present today. The two major factors that lead to the immense popularity of Nokia mobile phones are easy handling and better network reception. During the initial stage of mobile boom, the easy to use Nokia handset had a definite edge over its rivals which were comparatively complicated. Moreover, navigation of almost all Nokia handsets were the same so people don’t find any hassle in changing one Nokia to another. This lead to the enviable brand loyalty towards Nokia specially among the higher aged groups of mobile users. But as the market got matured and people started to get accustomed with the different functions, other players in the market came up very strongly with handsets equipped with better features and importantly, at a lesser price than Nokia handsets. But these competitions didn’t pose any serious threat to Nokia’s position as global leader with more than a lion’s share of the total mobile market. The rapid shift of today’s customer focus from easy interface towards new and enhanced features have made Nokia loose atleast some of its sheen. New Symbian Operating system used in Nokia handsets is far from the best software platform. The R & D department of Nokia are yet to come up with a software free from bugs. Almost all Nokia phones today have a lag of around 1 second which can get frustrating sometimes. The Symbian media player of the most advanced Nokia smartphones can be best compared to Sony Ericsson’s media player Walkman 1.0. But the later have came up with a even upgraded version Walkman 2.0. Despite these drawbacks, Nokia still have managed to come up with highly popular, target specific handsets, like N series for multimedia, E series for business and L’Amour collection as fashion solution. Foods To Avoid That Cause Bad Breath

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

By Harold Katz Did you know that there are specific foods that may lead to bad breath? This is because of volatile sulfur compounds - the culprit in causing bad breath! For example, if food sits out too long it will spoil. That spoiling action is due to anaerobic bacteria breaking down proteins in that particular food. In milk, the odor of sour milk is caused by relatives of the bugs that create bad breath when they break down proteins in the milk (and basically in all dairy foods). A reaction takes place where ‘the bad breath bugs’ extract sulfur compounds from the amino acids in these proteins. Specifically, the amino acid Cysteine is converted to Hydrogen Sulfide (which has a rotten egg smell) and Methionine becomes Methyl Mercaptan (which smells like a cross between old socks and garlic). The same analogy applies to meat if it sits out too long. Everyone knows that onions and garlic will create bad breath. But do you know why? It’s because the odorous molecules in onions and garlic are actually sulfur compounds themselves called Mercaptans. Sulfur is nature’s way of creating odors. You’re all familiar with the skunk. Its odor is created by a defense and/or attack mechanism. Skunk odor is made up of skatoles, which are naturally occurring sulfur compounds. In a similar fashion, bacteria in your mouth creates the volatile sulfur compounds of bad breath and taste disorders. There are 4 food categories that will result in an increase of sulfur production because these categories have a stimulating affect on the bacteria that cause bad breath: 1. Drying Agents 2. Dense Protein Foods 3. Sugars 4. Acidic Foods Let’s look closely at each of these food categories and how they stimulate bad breath! DRYING AGENTS The most common drying agent in food is alcohol. Alcohol of course, is the basis of all “adult” beverages such as beer, wine, and hard liquor. It is also used, unfortunately, in many mouthwashes you find in the grocery stores, which only makes a bad breath problem worse. Alcohol, known chemically as a desiccant, is used quite often in laboratories to “dry out” hard to reach areas in test tubes and beakers. The same end result takes place in the oral cavity. Although cigarettes are not really food, smoking is probably the quickest way to dry out your mouth, with alcohol being the second. If you smoke, you are bound to have bad breath! DENSE PROTEIN FOODS Dairy foods are notorious for creating bad breath. An article that appeared in the “Los Angeles Times” once noted that over 50% of the population in Southern California was “lactose intolerant”. With regards to bad breath, many of these people (numbering in the tens of millions) end up with more dense proteins available as bad breath fuel for the bacteria than those who have no problem with dairy foods like milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, etc. The end result is a buildup of amino acids, which are easily converted into volatile sulfur compounds by the anaerobic bacteria found within the surface of your tongue and throat. To a lesser extent, people have the same problem with other types of food that are considered to be dense in protein such as beef, chicken, and fish. Another problem, thankfully rare, has to do with people who have an inability to break down certain proteins found in beans. This condition is called TMA (Trimethylaminuria) and is sometimes known as the “Fish Odor Syndrome,” because the odor produced is similar to decaying fish. The odor consists of sulfur compounds, plus nitrogen compounds (amines). People with this condition must abstain from beans and other types of food that are dense in protein. SUGARS Wouldn’t it be great if we could get rid of bad breath by chewing on M&Ms? Or what if the cure for bad breath were Hershey Kisses? That’s what the makers of Altoids would have you believe. Altoids, and other products of the same ilk, are trying to fool the public into believing that a strong “good” taste in your mouth is equivalent to the “freshness” of your breath. This is so anti-scientific it’s absurd! If you think about it for a minute, it really doesn’t make any sense. By using concentrated mint flavorings, your taste buds pick up mint as a taste. However, Altoids contains two types of sugar which again, are a fuel for the bacteria to reproduce and create more sulfur compounds - thus bad breath. In addition, the frightening part is that other bacteria can take the sugars and produce glycan strands, which in turn end up causing thick layers of plaque on the enamel of your teeth and around your gums. This leads to tooth decay and gum disease - and you guessed it - worse breath than you started with! Since you can’t smell your own breath, you just go merrily along with that great strong mint taste in your mouth, while others close to you are backing away - backing away from your increased bad breath, decayed teeth, and gross, swollen, bleeding gums! Stay away from candies, mints, and chewing gum if they contain sugar! Instead, let me recommend an alternative created by TheraBreath called the TheraBreath Oxygenating Chewing Gum (http://www.therabreath.com/products.asp?CAT=5). It releases Oxygen molecules directly into your mouth and also contains the antibacterial agent, Zinc Gluconate. This agent is found in many cold medications. In addition it contains Xylitol, which is a natural sweetening agent with an anti-decay compound. ACIDIC FOODS Foods with a high acidic content are a problem as well. pH is a term used to describe the acidity of an environment. The oral cavity has a normal pH of 6.5 (7 is considered neutral). Some of the foods you should watch out for are coffee and many citrus juices. Both decaffeinated and regular coffee contain acids. However, tea is okay. Among the citrus juices the ones with the highest acidic content include tomato juice, orange juice, pineapple juice, and grapefruit juice. We know that acids make the bacteria reproduce much faster. In order to decrease the production of odorous sulfur compounds, the acid environment needs to be neutralized. What can you learn from all this? Avoiding foods that contribute to, if not cause, bad breath is vital if you want to have clean fresh breath. While this is a difficult task, being aware of these bad breath causing elements is the first step in developing confidence in your breath. In addition, it is important to use oral care products that are free of alcohol, sugar, and that also have a high pH level. A Spiritual View of Depression: The Light That Shines in the Darkness

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

By Julie Redstone The origin of depression may not be visible at all on an outer level where wealth, family, relationships, and success may all be in place and operating as signs and symbols of a successful life. Yet on an inner level, the inner being can feel bereft of that which feels necessary to life. It is this sense of being bereft - of having lost, mislaid, or had taken away that which was the source of hope and of vitality - that gives rise to depression. This is not to say that there is not a biochemical component to the picture as well. Only, that biochemistry is influenced by the underlying state of consciousness and the energy that it creates, even more than consciousness is influenced by biochemistry. The consciousness that underlies depression has become more widespread today. At the root of this phenomenon is the presence of purification on both individual and global levels. Whether applying to an individual or to the earth itself, it is this force, more than any other, that is behind the manifestation, today, of the ‘darkness that covers the light’. Purification is based on the greater presence of spiritual light which separates light from darkness, bringing all that is not light into awareness for purposes of release and healing. Global purification brings to the fore what has previously lain dormant within collective consciousness that is not of the light. It does the same within individuals. In this way, anger, hate, cruelty and fear can be felt more acutely within the consciousness of many, as can the sense of inner emptiness and loss. It is particularly in relation to the latter that we see an upsurge of depressive feeling-states today and a growing number of requests for help. On a large scale, the feeling of inner lack is being brought to the foreground so that it may be directly addressed and healed. That this is true is both the discomfort of purification and also its promise a promise which seeks to liberate humanity from darkness, yet which, in the process, requires of us that we experience what has formerly been kept hidden. In relation to depression, at its root is often the feeling of separation, lack, or void, and a sense of helplessness in relation to filling this void. This is the underlying consciousness that manifests as sorrow, hopelessness, despair, numbness, and withdrawal. The emptiness is felt by the deeper self that is hungry for light and truth that is hungry for a source of meaning - that is hungry for a source of light to banish the darkness within the self and within the world. Both upon the earth and within individuals, this darkness is very prominent now, and it gives rise much more quickly to feelings of depression than in times past. The capacity of darkness to create a ‘cover’ over light is what creates the sense of void or emptiness. Though light always remains present within each individual being, darkness obscures the inner connection with the heart and with the source of being so that this light cannot be felt. It also effectively creates a shallowness of perception in which nothing may seem quite real, and nothing that is joyful can touch or impact the self in a deep way. In contrast to the above, and in the presence of darkness, there is also a growing presence of light arising, emerging from beneath the covering and pushing its way through the layers of darkness as it strives to reach awareness. This light is increasingly infusing the physical plane and has a direct effect on each human body that is present on the earth. Though at first it may appear to bring into awareness that which is lacking, it also brings with it a way through the lack, toward hope and toward the light of being toward the recognition of one’s God-self that is the core level of each and every child of God. This core is both an identity and a source of love and joy. Though the light that shines in the darkness may be invisible for the moment, it is nevertheless doing its work so that the covering of darkness can lift and the true measure of who one is and what life is can be perceived. In relation to this light, its presence cannot be undone. Its arrival cannot be prevented. It is a matter of waiting during this difficult period for the light to arrive more fully, and in the meantime, of anchoring the heart in the Source of light so that even under cover of darkness, its gifts and blessings may be received most abundantly. Electronic Medical Records

Friday, October 26th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kent_Pinkerton] Kent Pinkerton Electronic medical records are computer-based patient medical records. Physicians offices and hospitals throughout the United States are increasingly using them because they offer certain advantages over conventional paper-based medical records. Such records are also useful in processing health insurance claims and following up with patients. A key benefit to medical providers is the instant availability of data once it is entered electronically, and the space and labor savings resulting from the elimination of paper-based records. Electronic medical records are readily accessible, increasingly standardized for seamless use where and when required, and greatly reduce the likelihood of error in either entry or interpretation of medical information. Having a patients medical and contact information readily available can be potentially life-saving during critical medical events such as severe allergic reactions or heart attacks. By reducing errors and saving time, electronic medical records may therefore help reduce the large number of deaths attributed to medical error in the United States each year. In order to enter medical information into an electronic medical record, special software is required. The electronic medical records software industry is rapidly growing, and such software is becoming increasingly sophisticated. While basic software allows for entry of physician orders and notes and nurses notes, more advanced software may include error-checking programs, the capacity to synchronize with hand-held data devices, and other advanced features that increase the utility of records. As electronic medical records are more widely used, concerns regarding the protection of patients confidential medical information and privacy have increased. In 1996, the US Congress passed the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and a more stringent Privacy Rule went into effect in 2003. HIPAA sets required national standards for medical records, guarantees patients the right to see their own medical records, and requires providers to inform patients how their medical information is used and disclosed. Are You Taking Bass Fishing Too Seriously?

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By Charles E. White With all the tension and stress in life the last thing you need is more stress when bass fishing. If youre fishing tournaments, going after that big hawg or just bass fishing with friends and have competition between the few of you that fish together, then maybe its time for a break. What kind of break you ask? A break from bass fishing stress! A laughter break! Yes, they say laughter is the best medicine and if youre uptight every day you just might find out a truer statement has never been spoken. If youre bass fishing is no longer relaxing and no fun anymore then back away for a little while and get a cup of coffee and start reading. What are you going to read, why fishing stories, bass fishing jokes and how about a free bass fishing e-book that is hilarious? Here is just an outtake of the e-book Im talking about: Have you ever tried to catch those little minnows that dart all over the place? Itsnot easy is it? I mean even with a casting net in a whole herd of them you stilldont get very many for the effort. Well, youre in luck I have made a plan thatmakes it a lot easier. Here is what you do.First, take your wife along for moral support. That is amain step in this technique. Second, go to your local bait store and get a 10 footcasting net. Ok, now for the technique itself. Go out in your boat and find some minnows ontop swimming. You will know there are millions of them below the surface. Thentake your boat and start to go around in circles, this will gather them into asmaller size gathering. Keep going around in circles for maybe a half hour lettingthe group get into a smaller circle each revolution. Now, once they are in a circle, give your wife the cast net. You take a quarterstick of dynamite and light it but be sure to have your wife with the catch net andready beforehand. The next step in crucial in timing. The second the dynamiteis lit and thrown in the water have your wife spread out the cast net and jump inthe water with it and gather all the minnows she can immediately. This is veryimportant because if the minnows are shocked too much and go all the way tothe bottom, then you wife might not be able to hold her breath that long to go allthe way to the bottom where the minnows are located. Believe me, I am talking from experience just last week we had to call theemergency squad for her because she came floating back to the top and can youbelieve it, she didnt have one damn minnow in that cast net when she finallysurfaced. I guess the EMTs couldnt believe it either because I heard them sayyoure not going back and do that again, I guess? I have to agree with them, Imean they couldnt believe it either she came back up without one minnow in thatnet. You do have to show some sympathy for her though so this is what I do. Shecomes up usually crying and holding her ears. So, I put my hands over my earstoo and throw water on my face so when she surfaces she thinks I am in painand crying too. Then she will start yelling and I will just point to my ears and sayI cant hear you sweetheart. Make sure you have some kind of painful look onyour face as I assure you she will when she comes up. I got her some ear.. If you want to read more of the story, you can get the e-book free. Just look in my resource box below. Charles E. White, aka Uncle Ike, is a long time bass fisherman that has fished for bass from coast to coast. In the decades that he has fished he has realized one thing…sometimes we all get to serious about bass fishing. When that happens it causes us stress and more tension in our lives. A Little Patience Goes a Long Way

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

By Gary Mosher We all know that relationships can be difficult. One of the best methods we have for making every relationship less stressful and more enjoyable is to show a little patience. Patience has been defined as what we lack for the driver in front of us and demand from the driver behind us. In truth, patience is nothing more than time. Time before we say something. Think of a time when someone was not patient with you when you needed them to be. Think of how you felt. Think of how deeply you might have been hurt. The next time you find yourself losing patience with another, take a moment to remind yourself of how you felt when someone had no patience with you. Time before moaning and groaning. Patience takes time, but no more time than the showing of anger; of stomping or yelling or whining or complaining. A little patience can often resolve a conflict that a loss of patience will only escalate. Time to just let things run their course. Arnold H. Glasow said, The key to everything is patience. You get a chicken by hatching an egg, not by smashing it. Some things require a certain amount of time. Losing patience only hurts ourselves and wont speed up the process. So take the time to smile instead of frown; the time to wink instead of snarl. How much time does it really take to give someone a small nod or a pat on the back? We never stop to think about how a little of our time can make such a big difference in how we make another feel. Benjamin Franklin said, He that can have patience can have what he will. The lack of patience is the key to so much unhappiness and grief in this world, when all it requires is a little time on our part. One of the simplest ways to build stronger relationships and bring more happiness into our lives is by becoming a little more patient. Showing someone patience is really giving to another that which we wish to receive, while a lack of patience is nothing more than a reflection of ourselves. Planting Roses in Pots

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

By Ron King In years past, serious rosarians would never consider having a potted rose on their property unless it was just waiting for its home to be prepared in the garden. Times have changed and potted roses now have a place in the lives of condo and apartment dwellers, city slickers who don’t live within sight of a tree, and anyone who has an empty space on their terrace or patio in need of the beauty that only a rose can bring. Not all roses are good candidates for growing in pots. The following varieties have been found to do best. However, you should feel free to experiment with any other varieties, even climbers, and see how they make out. All that Jazz Ballerina Blush Noisette Bonica Cecile Brunner Clotilde Soupert Green Rose Gruss an Aachen Hannah Gordon Hermosa Katharina Zeimet Mrs. Oakley Fisher Peace Perfume Delight Precious Platinum Sea Foam Sexy Rexy Souvenir de la Malmaison Stanwell Perpetual The Fairy Valentine Whiskey Mac Planting potted roses is relatively easy, as long as you do your planting in the spring after any chance of a frost is long past. If you live in a warm climate, then hold off planting until autumn when the ravages of July and August are far behind. When you’re ready to plant, choose an appropriate sized container with drainage holes. Make sure that the container has enough room for your plant to grow without having to transplant too soon. Fill the container with garden soil that contains some compost or organic fertilizer. Dig a hole that’s large enough to spread out roots without bending or cutting back. Knock the rose loose from its shipping container, and set it in the hole so that the bud union (”knob” from which canes grow) is just above soil level. Dig a shallow trench or moat around the base of the plant to hold water, then water it well. Potted roses are susceptible to the same diseases as garden roses, and they require feeding, pruning and all of the other rose care basics. Potted roses aren’t less work or responsibility; they simply take up less space than a regular rose garden. Don’t plan to treat your roses as if they were ordinary potted plants, or you will lose them. People often ask if they can grow potted roses indoors. The answer is: “Maybe, but it’s a risky proposition.” That’s because roses need high humidity and a lot of direct sunlight. Most modern homes with air conditioning do not have high humidity. However, if you live in a warm, humid climate, and you don’t have air conditioning, then you can probably get away with it as long as you put the rose in a sunny spot. Of all the rose varieties that are likely to survive indoors, miniature roses are your best bet. Miniature roses are regular roses that have been bred to grow into smaller, more compact plants with equally small flowers. They do very well in pots and are quite beautiful. If you’re willing, go ahead and experiment. You’ve really got nothing to lose and you just might discover a whole new aspect of rose gardening!
